Save. Spend. Splurge.

Curated Closet Workbook Exercise: Is my wardrobe equipped for my lifestyle?

How many different seasons do you have to dress for?

ALL FOUR. ALL DANG FOUR.

Only the Spring and Autumn are so short-lived, that when they hit, I am wearing ALL my coats, swapping them out daily, wearing cashmere shawls underneath to make them go farther..

I love these two seasons the best.

Knee-high boots, sleek wool coats…. *shivers with delight*.

PONCHOS! And this poncho gets some wear:

Our season here that is the longest is winter. *sad face*. While I like winter to some extent, I do not love the monotonous footwear (same winter boots), and the monotonous jacket (same down jacket)… because I have no other options. I have to stay warm.

How easy is it for you to choose an outfit in the morning?

If I have not chosen an outfit the night before, not very easy. I just go for a dress, or if it is winter, whatever pair of pants (navy chinos or grey wool) and a random top or sweater and a topper.

Like this and BAM out the door.

I have no imagination if I am pressed for time.

I start with what I need to wear, like pants and then build on top of that – what colour do I feel like today? And what boots or footwear can I wear?

If I have more time, I think about my schedule the next day and what I can wear…. (weather permitting).

How well equipped is your wardrobe for each of these occasions?

Very. Well. Equipped.

I have all the outfits for all the seasons.

What percentage of your closet did you wear during the past two weeks?

1%? I have a lot of clothes. That doesn’t mean anything. Out of my seasonally-available clothes, maybe 10%?

What type of occasions do you have to dress for?

Work, home, errands, thrifting/shopping excursions.

I don’t have black tie galas, events.. nothing.

And yet, I am also prepared for such occasions to some extent. Look.

A little about this series:

I am embarking on a 8-week (or longer) excursion to do this exercise from one of my favourite style books – The Curated Closet – and to show you what my Curated Closet Workbook (companion workbook to the actual book) looks like at every step of the way.

Why do this?

Because I know what I like but I have no idea why I like what I do. I just do, and it seems very hodge-podge and all over the place. Being very Type A, I kind of want to pin it down and to know WHY.

I feel like it would help me narrow down my style personas more, and stop me from making bad / stupid shopping mistakes.

Also, I really like reading about these kinds of things from other people. I love it when people go through and talk about their style evolution and why.
