Collection of ‘Things’ from May 2025
favourite read
The Kingdom of Prep: Maggie Bullock
I low-key devoured this book – The Kingdom of Prep. Not only was I a huge fan of J. Crew back in the day, but I also just adore Jenna Lyons’ style, and anything she stars in, I watch the clips of her in it because she just exudes effortless cool and yet is still quite relatable. Her apartment is also to swoon over…
ANYWAY…
…the whole book finally taught me the history of the company (it was something before Drexler came and swooped in!!), and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the ups, downs, the growth, the people, the culture and how it all came and went… twice.
TOPIC obsession
‘Objects of Affection’ by VOGUE
This Objects of Affection (Vogue) playlist was a complete accident, but a happy one. It goes through celebrity and ‘known’ homes, but instead of talking about the décor or what they wanted to do with the place, they talk about their favourite pieces in the home and what it means to them, why, how they obtained it, etc.
This is by far one of my favourite series to watch so far, because I am so nosy, I love peeking into others’ lives and being curious about what people find precious or priceless to them.
Here are the most notable ones for me so far:
- Anna Sui – it is so not my vibe but I love her mythical fireplace, her secret room to the apartment next door… YES PLEASE
- …and in contrast, Rick Owens has a home so minimalist that it is stark, but I loved the video mostly to hear his insights on life
- Of course, Jenna Lyons for me, remains one of my favourite icons (no matter what anyone says) and I adore her and her whole apartment filled with things (OBVIOUSLY).
FAVOURITE WATCH
The Supremes at Earls
I only watched this movie because of the famous “Unzip me” scene (this is the official trailer) and I am so glad I did. The whole movie is heartbreaking, deep and wonderful to watch, especially when it is a spotlight on friendship and the test of time.
OOTD INSPO
Bracelet Necklace
I think I saw Adina do this once and I loved it but am now reminded to try it again. Grab a bracelet, and clip the part that closes, around a necklace chain.. then let it hang, and voilà, you have a cool new way of wearing your fabulous bracelet!
SURPRISING purchase
Janet Hill Prints
Her work is just so expansive, expressive and creative. A lot of “ive”-ing, I know, but her works make me think, and draw me back in to study them some more, learning something new every time.
My favourites on my wall are:
- Venus in her lair
- Who lives in that house high above Sunset Strip?
- Selfie at the Mermaid Fountain
- Spymasters
ON THE HUNT FOR…
Matching beside tables for my office
I have a bench for my office chair (so I can slide back and forth and have lots of room and sit however I want), and I actually need a table or something to place my items on.. so I am looking for matching beside tables or something similar to help me keep things organized and handy while keeping my actual desk clear (my desk has no drawers.. 🙁 )
Statement Purchase
Rachel Antonoff Raddichio Dress
This raddichio dress is STUNNING. The print is fun, bright, and beautiful. Antonoff is really a superlative designer.
A crazy useful purchase
This innovative tote bag
These incredible tote bags, but hold on there is more… It isn’t just ANOTHER reusable tote bag, it is actually very practical and useful.
- has a little elastic hook to hold the rolled up tote bag together at the end (it is attached to the bag)
- has a ZIPPER so you can actually hold things in there and not be scared they will fall out
- ..said zipper also helps hold the totebag together after you pull the ends of it to snap them back together into a pleated ribbon-like state
- super easy to roll up and hold fast with the elastic
- holds a LOT. I mean the pleated folds roll out and you can pack a ton in there
- handles could be long enough to be used as a backpack rather than a shoulder bag on a small-ish person’s frame
I carry one around all the time because you never know
A clothing company to avoid
Marielle Stokkelaar’s dresses..
I was sucked into an algo and the dresses looked fun, breezy, amazing… and when I got them, they were one-sized (because they had no waist or anything like that), which is great for all inclusive sizes, but the dress itself was a massive tent of Egyptian cotton on me.
Too much fabric (well made fabric but too much), and I immediately sent them back.
Over a week since they have received the items, and I am still waiting for a refund. This is not looking promising, and I will call my credit card company if they don’t follow through.
TV series I have been watching
Murdoch mysteries
Took me almost 20-ish seasons before I realized this series existed.. set in Toronto, no less!!!! I am hooked. Murdoch is a fabulous character, the whole context, the stories, I am watching as many episodes as I can, wherever I can.
A Whimsical purchase
Book-style vases..!
I use it to store scissors but these book-style vases are SO CUTE. Many options out there. Exact one in Things page here.
Kind of loving….
Landman
I didn’t think (based on the synopsis) that this show would be for me.. but when you have a lineup like Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter and Hilary Swank playing parts, you know it is going to be solid.
I only really wanted to watch it based on this clip of Kayla Wallace playing Rebecca Falcone, a lawyer:
It is actually quite a smart, intense show. I am enjoying it so far.
