Sherry’s Ramblings of the Week

tea-drink-zen-relax-home

IT IS OFFICIAL, I HAVE JUST BOUGHT A HOME IN CASH

It closed yesterday.

I need to divest stocks to pay for it in cash.

Luckily, I have enough money to do so in cash.

After the bloodbath of selling, I will be left with:

  • $93,900 = Retirement funds
  • $59,790 = Cash

*gulp*

I’ll be knocked down to $153,690 in my net worth but a house paid for in cash.

At least it will be interesting to build it back up again to $500,000? Neh?

I just need to make $59,790 last until I get my next contract.

I have projected a maximum of $24,000 a year, so I have at least 2 more years before I throw in the towel and get a 9-5 job.

(I am actually planning on only spending $18,000 a year, but I want to give myself a little room in case of unplanned stuff happening.)

Here’s to staying free of corporate shackles! 🙂

OH YEAH, THIS THROWS A WRENCH IN MY DIVIDEND PLANS

Yeah and my dividend plan? Out the window.

I need to build up more capital, more than $60,000 anyway to cover $24,000 in living expenses a year.

I need capital of at least $480,000 to live off dividends.

I CAN DO THIS.

IN BABY BUN NEWS… POTTY TRAINING HAS BEGUN

2 hours in and I wanted to throw in the towel. I was wiping up all these splashes of pee all over the apartment. Our success rate has been 1 in every 10 pees in the toilet.

It is like he doesn’t even notice he pees, he does pee a whole bunch at once, but it’s like:

Oh.. more water spraying out from between my legs like a hose?

Hmm. That’s interesting.

Look at all of it go and come out.

He is so blasé about it and completely unaware of his bowels and bladder. He feels no interest or need to go to the potty BEFORE he pees.

He loves sitting on the potty though.

Should I give up until age 3?

HELP PARENTS WHO ARE SMARTER THAN ME, PLEASE HELP.

I have been trying to celebrate every pee IN THE POTTY, but it is getting harder and harder as my will to continue ebbs and dies.

Now he is napping and I am regaining optimism and hope.

I am going to stick it through for the next 2 days and then if it doesn’t work or show improvement by Day Two, I am shelving it until he is 3.

UNFORTUNATELY, NOT WORKING UNTIL NEXT YEAR

The stars do not point in the right direction it seems.

The companies I pitched to, ended up putting ads out to hire permanent people instead of contracting me to do the job.

*rolls eyes*

No matter, I’ll just have to sit tight, squeeze pennies and sob into my oatmeal and beans while sitting in my empty, paid-for-in-cash home.

*wink*

I’m a mom of three and have 2 potty trained kids (one is still a baby) but yes wait until your baby is 3. Or shows more interest in it. Leave the potty in the bathroom so he can explore it and maybe sit on it with his clothes on. Maybe a library book or video on potting might help too, but maybe not. My daughter is 3.5 now and still sleeps in pull ups. Congrats on the new place!

Hi, I have 2 boys, and with each one I was very nervous about potty training, but we were done in a weekend with each. We ditched the diapers, and switched to underwear, and took them to the bathroom every hour. It was exhausting, and there were a handful of accidents between the two, but it really worked. There were a number of times we considered throwing in the towel over the weekend, but we stuck it out. The lady at our daycare advised this method to us and it worked. It does take SERIOUS commitment over the weekend…it’s all about the potty! She also said in her 20 years of potty training the kids who go through her daycare, 2.9 months seems to be the magic month for boys – so I went w/ her advice. She did mention that there were more struggles w/ kids started pass the age of 3…Good luck!

I can’t remember exactly but my daughter toilet trained around 3, she has maybe three accidents, total.

She knew when she was weeing/pooing in her nappy, we would talk about it, I told her she could go in the toilet instead if she wanted, bought her some underwear, and each morning she choose if she wanted to wear a nappy/undies. She did not always choose underwear. I didn’t remind her before we went out or anything just left the toilet door open and a seat on the toilet.

Night and sleep training was the same, i would ask her what she wanted to wear, she would choose. she has wet the bed about 5 time in 18 months.

I like what Janet Lansbury has to say about parenting and this is about toilet training:

If I have not replied to this comment, THANK YOU. I am reading it, I don’t want to force him or create potty issues but we are working on it.

I am writing a post on this after I’m done. HAHA

Congrats! Won’t you be counting your condo value in your net worth?
