Blog Affairs: What has been happening in a nutshell

Hi. Remember me? I’m posting but my blog is basically on auto-pilot these days because….

I KEEP GETTING SICK

I had a cold. Then stomach flu. And now I have a second cold (I can see the signs of a second cold starting). Every time I finish something, something new attacks me.

I know what the cause is — Little Bun in Preschool + Lack of Sleep + Not enough fluids = Sherry sick all the dang time

WORK IS RAMPING UP

Lots of stuff to do. I love working, don’t get me wrong. I am interested in using my brain, and I am good at it. I love that.

People are sort of jealous that I’m staying and they’re not. I’m also dealing with internal politics of trying to juggle not making my team lead annoyed and understanding where my bread is being buttered (by HIS bosses).

So as a result, I have zero time to think about blogging.

YOGA IS ON THE BACKBURNER

I am going at least twice if not three times a week but not any more than that because I need time to get personal stuff done during lunch.

LITTLE BUN IS GOING THROUGH A VERY CLINGY PHASE

The “No Daddy”, “Only Mommy” phase…. I come home and he throws himself against my legs and starts sobbing like his heart is broken.

I am trying to remove makeup, get dressed in house clothes, maybe put my things away and I can’t because Little Bun is just… like whoa.

I ask my partner what is happening and he says: HE WAS FINE ALL DAY. Now he’s a total effin’ monster the minute you come home.

Totally normal, apparently. But not at all helpful.

THINKING OF DROPPING MY NET WORTH POSTS

Any objections? I have no idea.

I feel like no one really reads my net worth posts (no one comments or asks anything) and they’re a complete waste of time for me to even write…. but the thing is that they do take about 4-5 hours to compile each time.

Would anyone miss them? Let me know in the comments. Otherwise I’m scrapping them.

I like your net worth posts even if I donā€™t comment but if they are too time consuming Iā€™d advise reducing the frequency. Maybe once every quarter or six months. Just do whatā€™s right for you.

I love your net worth posts. They’re such an inspiration and driver for me! Maybe use a template to speed things up and comment on the key lines to save time?

I tried doing that before, but doing the graphics itself and getting the stats is what takes time.. šŸ™‚ Templates help to a certain extent unless you want to keep reading: MUST STOP SPENDING over and over again.. LOL..

I really enjoy the Networth posts too! I had no idea that it took you that long to put them together though. Maybe put them together quarterly like others have suggested.

It is more the time it takes to cull all the info, enter the numbers, double check, edit the graphics.. it takes forever and a day. I counted that it was about 4-5 hours the last time… šŸ™‚

Quarterly would be a good idea too but that’s just.. more work for the same result. I’d rather do them monthly and split!

I like them too!! They are beautiful, but maybe you don’t have to go into so much detail. For myself, they don’t take very long because I don’t have such beautiful graphics to upload like you do!

I enjoy your net worth posts but it’s not worth the time it takes you to create it for us. Please feel free to either take a break from it, reinvent it somehow to a less detailed version, change to quarterly or whatever works for you. I”m sorry I never gave any feedback in the past regarding those posts but I do enjoy them. Take care of yourself – that should be your priority for sure. Best ~ Lori

Your net-worth posts are works of art

  • Sandy

I like the net worth posts too! Perhaps quarterly, as other commenters have suggested? Your Week of Money posts are my fave.

  • Cassie

We’re fighting the daycare plague over here as well, so I feel your pain. I hope you feel better soon.

I enjoy the net worth posts, but if writing them is taking too long and too much energy, by all means drop them. Your wellbeing is more important than my entertainment.

I’m right there with you on being sick, except I’m fighting the B strain of influenza. I think I got it from my husband. Praying our kids are spared. I like your budget roundups and net worth reports. Would it save you some time if you did them quarterly instead of monthly? Hope you feel better soon! If you just need to take a hiatus from the net worth reports to catch your breath, do that. We’ll still be here.

I really like them too. Net worth, what you bought (not that fussed about read or watched), week of money. Theyā€™re my top 3.

Is there a way to compromise and simplify what you share?

  • Susan

Hi, sorry to hear you haven’t been feeling well. It does get easier as a child gets older, isn’t sick as often and becomes more independent but getting there can seem endless.

I’m usually more interested in posts about personal finance and your week in money than in fashion and other topics. I look forward to Budget Roundups and also read your Net Worth posts, but will roll with whatever you’re up to posting.

    • Elisa

Ditto. Haha, I’m also a lurker who likes to see how net worth and income statement are measuring (give me incentives to work on mine) and love links. I think I enjoy it more than fashion but that’s because I’m still working on my weight loss; once I’m at my ideal weight, definitely going to do wardrobe revamp and emulate parts of your styles :). Don’t worry about doing it monthly however if you are busy in other aspects of your life; a lot of things are more important than blogging and if you need to take a break and reduce the amount of blogging you need to do to have a me time and relax, you should do so. Totally understand how busy life is with a toddler and full time career and being constantly sick due to daycare baby bun is at.. big hugs and feel better soon!

  • Jeannie

I like your net worth posts, but I don’t think they are worth that much of your time. Maybe once a year or once a quarter summary? I still find it interesting to see how other people are doing.

  • Shannon

I really do like the net worth posts. It is one of the posts that I enjoy reading the most. Hopefully it doesn’t go away.
