Save. Spend. Splurge.

When you see yourself in photographs, what do you think?

See answer from “Do you consider yourself photogenic“?

In addition, what I think is just how I felt that day or what happened when we had that shot taken.

Nostalgia maybe. Fond sentimentality. Happiness.

If you’re asking what I think of how I LOOK, I always think I look great.

I’m not vain enough to try and destroy every single shot of myself where I am not beautiful, because those shots are also my favourites depending on the circumstance and context.

Where I will say I harbour SOME regret is my office or passport photos because I should have remembered NOT to wear shiny makeup as they use flash in all of these dang things and the lighting is always terrible and harsh so my face comes out shiny and I look like some cave beaver.

The good news is that I look way better in person than in a photo for those particular ID badges so I feel much better when people approach me, I turn around and the mild shock is palpable on their faces like β€” β€œOh! You aren’t at all like your photo!”.

Yep. I set low expectations, and then deliver the world.

We went on a long family trip this summer and I wasn’t particularly thrilled with any of the pictures taken of me. Nothing tragic but nothing that made me smile either (other than the one of me shooting pool at a wedding with my 9 year-old son!).
However yesterday I had two photos taken of me that I really like. One was taken by my husband (who was playing with his new camera lens) while I was on the deck eating breakfast. No makeup, hair tied back in a bandanna, wearing yoga clothes. But it’s a great picture and I look good! The second was a selfie I took while waiting for my yoga class to begin. I looked at it when I got home and thought, not bad for a 46 year old.
So it seems yoga clothes and no makeup are the way to go… πŸ™‚
