Outfit Remix: Minimalist New York City Rockstar Model on Duty Chic

MINIMALIST OUTFIT REMIX SERIES II:

NEW YORK CITY

ROCKSTAR / MODEL ON DUTY

Today I am tackling one of my favourite outfits to wear and switching it up to change out elements easily to make the look more palatable or appropriate for the office.

I love this outfit because it is so comfortable and chic without trying. I have recently become a convert to wearing leather leggings because they’re now as comfortable as jeans to me. Baby Bun loves rubbing my legs when I have leather leggings on because he likes the feel of the leather, it’s kind of cute.

It’s also ridiculously comfortable and minimalist. Put it on and go!

Do let me know if you like this! If so, I’ll make more under my new series called Outfit Remix.

CLASSIC ROCKSTAR / MODEL ON DUTY

BREAKDOWN OF ELEMENTS

BlankNYC $60 Vegan Leather Moto Jacket (I rather like this Trouve Leather moto one for $300)

Black $965 Leather Leggings by J Brand which are super covetable and raved about by most fashionistas. I myself own a pair from The Row, and if your budget isn’t that flash, you can try these expensive-looking $108 vegan leather leggings by Lysse or these $32 one by Cherish.

Rag & Bone $595 Black Moto Boots (this is the pair I own and love, full review of them here)

Sunglasses $420 by Oliver Peoples Ray-Ban Clubmaster pair that looks quite similar for $150but I really like this

White $30 tank top by The Gap which is a nice looking, classic tank top, but if you want to go cheaper, try this $20 Free People Beach Tank

Studded gold bracelet is $275 by Tom Binns but you can find cheaper options like the $45 Rebecca Minkoff stretch bracelet, or this $20 Wild Lillies option

Sole Society Karlie Vegan Leather $65 Bucket Bag (also comes in this nice concrete grey)

DESCRIPTION

Almost every model (before the rise of athleisure as a fashion trend), seemed to live in this outfit. Plain neutrals, stunningly bare, make-up free (or seemingly so) skin, a slash of lipstick if any, and beat up boots.

Low on the jewellery, but but not completely void of it with a simple, delicate bangle.

It’s comfortable (hello? gorgeous flat boots?) and so easy to wear daily without batting an eye. Heck, I practically live in this outfit, myself, even as a mother of a rambunctious toddler.

REMIX IT…

Now for some remixes.

TURN UP THE GLAM…

1. CHANGE THE MOTO INTO A FLORAL MOTO

Switch out the moto jacket for this gorgeous floral version (still vegan!) by BlankNYC for $168 and it also comes in a white version. I love the floral embroidery all over this vegan leather and have SERIOUSLY considered buying that jacket more than once.

It is so me and yet not me at all.

2. TURN THE BLACK BAG INTO A METALLIC TOTE

Turn that black leather bucket bag into a metallic tote instead to dial down on the seriousness of black all over the place.

Pictured is a stunningly (expensive) $3950 metallic gold woven leather hobo bag which you can have in this cheaper Benson version for $160 or this $99 woven drawstring Made in Italy bag that looks more expensive than its price tag.

Metallic totes work because it is still shiny and has a nice gleam of metal (in keeping with the theme) but can be very elegant and casual when done in a woven leather.

TONE DOWN THE ROCK & ROLL…

1. TURN THE LEATHER LEGGINGS INTO BLACK OR DARK JEANS

All that black leather not your thing? No problem! That’s why waxed jeans were invented. I live in this $238 pair by Citizens of Humanity that looks like leather but isn’t, and this pair by Only Natalie Rock is only $31.

If you really don’t want to wear black jeans in general, try dark blue rinse jeans then. My favourites are the AG Farrah $228 High Rise Jeans to tone down on all that leather.

I’d keep at least the black moto jacket and the boots as core elements however.

2. TURN THE BLACK LEATHER BAG INTO A LINEN TOTE INSTEAD

Lightens up the whole look when you change out the bag into this stunning Ale by Alessandra Cleopatra Linen Tote for $140. It’s fun with its sequins and tassels without being too much.

If you want something without any sequins at all but with a light silver or gold sheen, I own and love this $142 Independent Reign silver tote which is handmade in NYC, U.S.A..

If you want something a little more bohemian, try this gorgeous $258 Vanessa Bruno Embroidered Blue Tote.

3. SWAP OUT THE STUDDED BRACELET FOR BANGLES

Lower down the rock & roll factor by swapping in some feminine bangles for LOFT for $20, they have a whole range of options from crystal studded ones (pictured), geometric stones for $25, a mixed metals set for $20, and this super glam $20 rondelle sparkler set.

MAKE IT WORK APPROPRIATE

1. THE MOTO JACKET BECOMES A BLAZER WITH LEATHER SLEEVES

Choose a nice blazer with leather sleeves like this Lysse blazer pictured above in plus-size above for $110, and I really like this blue wool Lysse version for $148 or this other plus-sized version that has a tuxedo feel to it for $89, or a leather-like lapel topper to keep that element going like this $33 Denim & Co version, but toned wayyyy down for the office.

2. CHANGE THE MOTO BOOTS INTO HEELS

The now famous Valentino Rockstud heels for $995 are pictured, but any pair of black heels will work. This pair by INC Concepts is a knockoff of the Rockstuds for $90 and so are these J. Renee ones for $60.

3. TURN THE LEATHER PANTS INTO A PAIR OF SLEEK SKINNY PANTS

The leather pants are gone, and black skinny ankle pants from J. Crew are in for $50. I also like the LOFT pairs for $70 as well, and wear my Banana Republic $70 Sloan pants to death.
