Get the perfect work from home WFH office setup: Part 9 – Standing Desk Movement + Cleaning and Reset
Standing desks are ALL THE RAGE, but keep in mind that it is better to sit for 8 hours than to stand for 8 hours. The very best is to mix between the two, to stand and sit in alternating times. Ideally, getting up every half an hour to do a little yoga or walk.
Alternatively, you could use items to reset or clean off your desk!
Psst! If you have missed the first of the series, I fell down a literal rabbit hole a month ago, and am gathering all my insights into multiple part posts, with examples and actual product links, plus my take on them.
I will give you what I see repeatedly pop up over and over again and what has endured through their hundreds of videos. I sometimes see paid partnerships or sponsorships from brands for certain things, but by the next video it is gone.
So I am also looking out for longevity in choice. I will also note afterwards, what I personally use / do and why.

STANDING DESK MOVEMENT ACCESSORIES
- Movemate board – This is the item I am buying, 100%. Handmade in Canada, and it looks awesome. There are other options (shown next), that are just boards that you rotate or move on like a standing skateboard, but this one in particular is in a very cool wave pattern and you can ‘walk’ your feet on it, and do different movements that are not possible with another swivel pad. There are knockoffs available but in my experience, they don’t tend to last even if they are cheaper. Always buy the original for things that have moving parts. Just my 2 cents.
- Standing Fatigue Board – I don’t know why you would wear shoes with it, but whatever. Standing all the time and not moving is fatiguing, so this is a great board to also massage your feet.
- Walking pad – Lots of people have this and love it, but I cannot walk and work at the same time, I am not that coordinated.
- Standing Anti-Fatigue Mat – This is great if you just want to stand. Comes in various colourways.
CLEANING + RESET
Every day I try to clean up my desk a little, but it is more a weekly thing.
Getting rid of the dust really helps because it stops you from being distracted about how you have to clean that desk… AGAIN.
What I do daily however, is reset my desk, to put things back to where they should be, so that I am not encountering a mess the next morning.
- Baseus Handheld Vacuum – It is small and easy to store beside your desk or in your office to quickly clean up and reset your space.
- Hallocool Desktop Vacuum – Small and rechargeable!
- Odistar colourful Desk Vacuum – Handheld, and easy to use to clean up dust and other quick things
MY TAKE ON CLEANING ITEMS
I feel like it isn’t that necessary unless you have a lot of pencil shavings and things always all over your desk. I am fairly tidy, so I just sweep whatever I need into my hand and toss it into the garbage.
But I could see how this would be a lot easier to handle if you had a smaller handheld vacuum cleaner that could just remove things easily without having to lug out a large vacuum, particularly if you are in the middle of working and the mess is bothering you, so you use a quick desk vacuum to tidy up.
