9 Personal Finance Money Books to Start for Beginners in Canada

I would recommend reading them in this order:

  1. Your Money Or Your Life
  2. The Psychology of Money
  3. The Soul of Money
  4. The Millionaire Next Door
  5. I Will Teach You To Be Rich
  6. Millionaire Teacher
  7. Index Funds for the Recovering Investor
  8. RRSPs The Ultimate Wealth Builder
  9. Tax-Free Savings Accounts

CHANGING YOUR MINDSET ON MONEY

These 3 books will help you think about money in a different way.

  • Your Money Or Your Life
  • The Psychology of Money
  • The Soul of Money

Money is about options, freedom and deciding what life you want to live. Not about consuming.

ALL ABOUT RICH PEOPLE

This book was the first one I ever read on money, and it is widely thought of as being controversial because it is very white-male centric, but I think 75% of the concepts in there are useful in terms of understanding how not everyone who looks rich IS rich, and vice versa.

  • The Millionaire Next Door

HOW TO GET YOUR MONEY WORKING FOR YOU

These two books are good to get you hooked onto making your money work for you. Teaching you about the basics of budgeting, expenses, savings, investing. It is American-centric, but the concepts in there are pretty solid.

  • I Will Teach You To Be Rich
  • Millionaire Teacher

For Australians, you might want to look at:

  • The Barefoot Investor

LEVELLING UP YOUR MONEY

These last books are the best overall ones I have read as a Canadian for understanding index funds, the psychology, and then applying what you have learned by maximizing your RRSPs and TFSAs.

  • Index Funds for the Recovering Investor
  • RRSPs The Ultimate Wealth Builder
  • Tax-Free Savings Accounts

After these 9 books, then you can start thinking about tax strategies, estate planning, or more ‘advanced’ topics.
