Collection of ‘Things’ from January 2025
Note: I absolutely had to do a January 2025 post even though it is March because I hate it when things are incomplete as collections.
favourite read
STONE COLD FOX: RACHEL KOLLER CROFT
This book for some reason, completely captivated me. Maybe part of it is the awesome cover art? I am a sucker for a well designed book jacket… especially one featuring jewellery, but I think it was more that it was about a woman making her way through life by using her wits & charm (albeit in a very scammy way).. there is something about a good heist that really tugs at my heart strings – you know, just like the whole Oceans series of films…
TOPIC obsession
NEPO BABIES
Like immensely rich ones. I started following Mei Leung on TikTok (@mei.leung was my gateway nepo baby), and seeing her just casually tot up numbers of what she spent (and what her brother spent) is like watching reality TV. It made me realize that rich people were just like everyone else, but a lot of decimal places over. Like.. a LOT.
In one shopping trip, she can spend $87,000 and call it ‘not bad’, because her mother in one day, spent over $500,000 shopping. This kind of wild luxurious spending does two things: (1) makes me feel better about my own spending LOL… and (2) fascinates me as to what they buy and why. The curious thing about it all is she is actually pretty down to earth in some respects and completely 100% aware of her immense privilege of having been born into the right family.
Obviously, wealth and how people think about it or spend it, is one of my favourite topics – here is my list of books on Wealth, Class & Rich People Things.
FAVOURITE WATCH
CULINARY CLASS WARS
Season One, set in South Korea. It is a completely different format from Top Chef or Iron Chef. It is wild to see what challenges they are put through and I have always loved watching cooking competitions (Top Chef remains one of my all-time favourite shows, along with Iron Chef). Food aside, I think I like seeing how people work through a challenge, what they are thinking and how creative they can get.
OOTD INSPO
SWADDLED LIKE A BABY
This is my kind of look. Completely swaddled in cosy 100% cashmere, looking chic yet effortlessly casual .. YET.. able to walk into an office as well. There is something dangerous (and luxurious) about being in 100% cream or white (I tend to not get dirty..), and it looks like whatever is wrapped around her waist is another longline sweater of some sort she can wrap around herself.
Then maybe belt it, put up the collars, throw on sunglasses and go about your day… and most of all, this looks screams PRACTICALITY… it greatly appeals to me because you can wear it with flats.
FAVOURITE purchase
HORSES ATELIER ALCHEMICAL COATS
Yes I really do own 3 of these amazing Alchemical coats now.
They go over everything, you can even layer them over other coats and use it like a draped shoulder jacket (you know, like in fashion shots where they don’t even stick their arms into the sleeves). It adds a draped cape layer of warmth without being too pretentious, and the deep pockets sing to me – I like to stuff things in there like my mittens, even though it ruins the ‘look’ and line of the coat when I do.
Horses Atelier (@horsesatelier) also makes the nicest blouses – I am particularly in love with their High Collar blouse style because it layers SO WELL underneath other items.
LOVING LATELY…
PICTURES OF RELAXING GIRLIES
It is such an oddly specific category, but I really like paintings and images of women… relaxing.
Reading, eating cookies and pastries, relaxing in bed… here are a few of my favourites:
- Decadent woman after a dance
- Girl drinking wine in bed (photo)
- Mademoiselle Mink breakfasts in bed
- Girl reading in bed
- Pretty in purple
To save money, I buy them digitally and just have them printed, then find a thrifted store frame, paint it if needed, and frame it up.
