How to stop your futon, mamasan or papasan from slipping

If it is the frame itself that is moving, you need to use heavy duty zip ties.

What you do is zip tie the basket chair part itself, really tight to the frame, and if you hate the bits sticking out, then use some scissors and trim them.

If it is the cushion itself that is moving, it is likely you did what I did, and bought an upgraded cushion but each time you get on and off it, it slides like crazy.

3 OPTIONS ON HOW TO SECURE A FUTON CUSHION

(This also works on a mamasan or papasan chair…)

1. SEW RIBBONS TO THE CUSHION

Sew them to the back of the cushion, in the little dimples of the chair. Push the needle THROUGH the dimple and back, and then secure it around the cotton ties.

Don’t sew the ribbons to the soft plushy part, you want them really secure and to not rip your cushion, and going through the cushion is the best way.

2. PLACE A THIN YOGA MAT UNDERNEATH IT

I am not handy and I didn’t care about aesthetics so I put a very thin, super grippy yoga mat underneath.

You can use any yoga mat if you want, but if you want maximum grip, I 100% recommend this rubber yoga mat.

Don’t go for cheap plastic crap. If it won’t grip your hands, it won’t grip the cushion.

Not all yoga mats are grippy by the way. Price also doesn’t matter, neither does name brand. You really want something that will HOLD.

3. USE RUG STOPPERS

Similar to a yoga mat, probably far cheaper but I didn’t have any on hand, you can buy these rug gripper pads and put them all over the back.

It SHOULD work, as it keeps rugs in place. The only reason why I didn’t go with this option is because I felt like a yoga mat would be the best option to really secure it as my cushion is quite heavy and thick.

In the past, I have noticed these rug grippers sometimes flatten down and end up losing their effectiveness, and start slipping.

I then have to take them up fluff them out again and then re-position under the rug.
