In Style, What I bought

What I bought: The October 2020 Edition

Youtube Video: What I bought: October 2020

And in detail

A few things finally arrived in the mail this month. It was heavy on jeans, as you can see!

I also have a few items in there I upcycled to become ‘new-to-me’ items from my old necklaces and jewellery.

Finally received these items!

Zoya – Paloma nail polish – $13

This berry nail polish is just so DELICIOUS looking. Like jelly. It’s what I am hoping will be the perfect berry colour.

Sally Hansen Pure – Fruity Papaya – $8

I also picked up this fun, coral pink colour from Sally Hansen called Fruity Papaya (I have a few others of theirs, like this nice red called Cherry Amore and Pomegranate Punch).

Paid: $31.89

I wanted a pair that didn’t look hideous so I found these ones that look like glasses.

For COVID protection, you may all think I’m crazy, but I’ve taken to wearing not only a mask, but goggles when I am out, as very tiny, fine droplets of this stuff can get into your eyes as you’re passing by or in stores when people have sneezed/coughed in the area even hours before, and these will not be 100% protection but at least better than not wearing anything at all.

In real life, they’re not bad at all. Pretty cute when worn, just as if you’re wearing regular glasses, and honestly speaking, the quality is quite good, and well made.

Paid: $171.17

Bought right here, few sizes left as it was 50% off! And luckily I am a size US 7, so I fit into the last few pairs remaining.

I love the look of the wrapped gladiator leather straps, that it isn’t a thong sandal but one where the leather wraps around the big toe instead (preferable, as it takes time for the thong part to loosen up and be soft and comfortable from repeated wearings), and I love the criss-cross across the foot as well.

This is actually more of a platinum than a GOLD, but it looks gold-ish which is good enough for me. I had these old gold sandals before from Etsy, that are handmade but absolutely horrific quality for the $100+ price tag I paid for them.

My main gripe is the sole is NOT leather and not durable whatsoever, it is a cheap foam, and as a result, the leather is now stretching out from the sole so much that I can slip the sandals on without undoing the (cheap) flimsy buckles. I do love the look of them, but they’re too cheap and I need a better, higher quality replacement that will stand the test of time.

I do love the little gold braid on there as well, it’s quite pretty, but… sorry. I need better sandals and now I know.

I will do a good review on the AGS Satira sandals (unbiased, as I paid for them), and let you know how it goes.

What I got for free using Poshmark credits

“Paid”: $60

Now I LOVE high rise jeans and I avoided these incredible Jeanne in Frame because it keeps saying mid-rise… except that their mid-rise is actually NINE INCHES! It isn’t 8″ or 7″, which is what I consider to be too low of a mid-rise.

9″ to about 11″ is what I consider high rise, and these are perfect as they now open up a whole range of styles in Frame denim I can wear now.

The AG pair I have, are a size 27 and apparently now a size and a half too big for my body, meaning they aren’t tight any more (I have lost weight in the past year or so). I like having that kind of baggy, dark rinse boyfriend look in the jeans, so I am keeping them, and I picked up a tighter pair of Frame jeans.

“Paid”: $30

Again – I have wanted these black ripped Jeanne jeans for a long time but they kept saying “mid-rise” so I resisted, and waited forlornly. Once I realized how high the rise really is (9″) I was sold. I immediately bought it because I wanted a jet black pair that was distressed heavily up the thigh and this works out great.

J Brand White High Rise Jeans

“Paid”: $55

White high rise jeans that are NOT DISTRESSED…. because I am going to sell one of my pairs of white distressed jeans, and this will replace them as the missing ‘gap’ in my wardrobe.

Eberjey Cropped Knit Lounge Pants (New with Tags)

“Paid”: $60

Still selling in stores for $90 plus taxes and shipping.

Since they’re “cropped” I am hoping they mean for a tall woman, and in fact, “cropped” means it comes to my ankles at the very least. I plan on just wearing them at home, so I don’t care if I have to wear them as a low rise jogger so that the bottom hits at my ankle and is comfortable.

They look comfy, new with tags… can’t go wrong.

Stella and Dot Alila Lace Cuff Bracelet

“Paid”: $48

I bought a SECOND one of these cuffs because they’re beautiful, but also because I plan on re-creating this look with them but with two lace cuffs instead of two solid ones (though I am not ruling those out in the future either):

ALC Galen Wide Leg Jeans (New without tags but with a tiny flaw)

“Paid”: $35

I’ve low-key been wanting a pair of wide legged jeans, but not the kind that remind me of the 90s where sk8ter bois and girls wore them. Like, chic wide-legged jeans, and these ALC ones fit the bill.

The seller sold them for super cheap (the first offer I made) because I think that ONE TINY FLAW at the back of these jeans were stopping her from selling them. I saw the flow, but it looks to be near to the end of the hem, and for this price I can take a gamble on a couple-hundred at retail pair of jeans, and hand stitch it up in dark thread to make it less noticeable.

Acne Studios Black Heels & Sergio Gutierrez Liquid Metal Bracelet

“Paid”: $84 with credits

Paid actual: $66 – out of pocket

Total: $150

I honestly couldn’t let these heels go by accident. I woke up in a cold sweat thinking they’d be gone if I waited too long to sell more items or get more referrals, so I snagged them immediately.

I have been low-key stalking them for the past 5 years. I tried them on ONCE in a store in Montreal, wearing these heels as sample items with some jeans I was trying on, and they were THE MOST comfortable pumps ever. I had never felt such comfort aside from Manolo Blahnik, although these were more comfortable as they were cushioned and padded to boot! ….

The only other mainstream brand that comes close, would be these pairs from BR.

Then to save on shipping, I bought this bracelet too because I love this kind of chainmail, metal style bracelets. I own one already I bought for way more money (couple hundred?) at a local artisanal boutique in Montreal, but I wanted a second one so I could layer on the bracelets and have it go up my arm. Love.

Loved your video and the video on designer jeans. Thank you for sharing you safety goggle find! I’ve been looking for a pair myself for various art and interior decorating projects and I need something that will actually fit my face! Also I’ve put invisible women on hold at my local library, sounds like such a great read.

Thank you so much! And you’re welcome. The goggles are worth it – they finally fit my face, they don’t slide off, and they look cute to boot. I couldn’t stand wearing the other pairs. Lastly, Invisible Women is one of the best books I’ve read all year, I can’t unsee what I have learned.
