What I bought: August 2018 – The End of The Month Edition

In case you missed it, I did the first instalment here: What I bought and read August 2018 – Travel Edition … I split it into multiple posts because I did buy and read more, and I have more time to blog about these things in detail now that I am on vacation.

WHAT I BOUGHT

MM LAFLEUR DAVIS INKBLOT TOP

The love for MM Lafleur continues.

I picked this one up secondhand on eBay, just in my size — S. I normally take XS in the tops if they are looser and not as fitted but if they are tailored, I need an S. This Davis top was suggested to “size up” as the chest would be tighter. I had the Deneuve top in XS which is loose, so I am taking a gamble on the S for this.

It would be the perfect black & white top that isn’t 100% black to wear with black bottoms. I don’t really have black and white prints because I am geared towards colour, so this is a wardrobe supplement I did actually need…

I had been waiting for a GOOD black & white print that is abstract and interesting, and am happy this one showed up.

It looks like the back is slightly split open with a neck enclosure, so I won’t have to try and force my head through anything…

HALSTON HERITAGE RUCHED PURPLE & WHITE DRESS

Draping, a pretty purple colour, inkblot styles, and a comfy-looking dress gets me EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Bought secondhand off eBay, and I think it will be a nice, interesting dress to wear. For work I need to add a belt for my ID card but that’s no problem. Got tons of belts.

RED COTTON CULOTTES

I’m really starting to warm up to culottes now. Wide-legged, cropped… they look like full skirts to me, but with the safety of being pants. Kind of like skorts (shorts that look like a skirt). I also love pockets.

WHITE & COBALT BLUE STRIPED LOOSE VISCOSE TOP

Can’t resist a stripe. Especially a bold one, in a loose viscose top. This is going to look incredible with some white jeans… Or even over my black leather pants because it has some black in the top to “match”…

ON SALE PURCHASES

YELLOW BUTTON-UP TOP

I actually was looking for a nice higher-neck yellow top to contrast against my navy blue skirts and so on, but did not want to pay full price. At $20 this can’t be beat..

WHITE FLOUNCED SHOULDER TOP

Not sure this will work to be honest, but style is about trying different things. I suspect this will go back but I have to test the waters

WHITE EYELET TOP

My mom is a HUGE fan of lace and eyelet, so in homage to her, I am trying the style… again, not sure it will stay. This is really not my ‘thing’ but I may love it, who knows?

BANANA REPUBLIC LINEN BLEND BUTTON UP DRESS

100% sold out in both colours. I liked it the minute I saw it but didn’t want to buy it because.. hello.. $200!?!.. and for a dress that looked very similar to one I already owned, that is a butcher-block style but without the frill at the bottom shown below:

But when I saw it on sale for 50% off, I gave the Petites size 8 a shot. Who knows.. it might fit, or it might not, but for $70, I am willing to try since it looks VERY pretty.

ROSEFIELD BOWERY BLACK BAND WATCH (SECONDHAND)

Got this for $50 CAD, shipping all in. I have wanted one for a while but did not want to pay the $$$$… Now to hunt down a navy blue leather strap for this baby!

TWO PAIRS OF HANDMADE GREEK SANDALS

ETSY – MUSE DE LA MEDITERANNEE

This pair in gold…

And this pair in rose gold…

I have only realized this summer that I am really out of sandals to wear. I wear the same pair all the time and they are getting w-o-r-n.

I wil llet you know how they work out. THey look well made and the leather in the reviews say it is soft and thin, the way I like it (no blisters).

WHAT I BOUGHT FOR MY MOTHER

My mother likes linen, cotton and loose kinds of tops.

I picked up this for her in white…

….and in a nice stripe as well because I knew it would suit her.

I would have bought it for myself as well — look at how cute the ties are at the elbow! — but the draping and shape is all wrong for my body type, hanging in the wrong places making my shoulders look way larger than they are.

It would look better on my mother because it is loose, slightly oversized (she is self conscious about her weight), and the ties will add a little something to the look.

If they had the PANTS in a pure linen white I would have bought them, but alas, only in stripe.

WHAT I ALMOST BOUGHT

I am a sucker for cute bright florals, but something about this flower in an abstract seems off…. It is cute but then I look at it and it becomes less so. I think it needs more green or yellow in there to make it look less flat as a print.

This striped top almost came home with me as well but I needed a medium for my shoulders:

Also, I wasn’t sold on the red and white stripe. They are a tiny bit too thin and too close to each other (gives me a headache / cross-eyed motion sickness)… but I love that the straps are not spaghetti straps!

This super pretty Windsor floral skirt also almost went into my shopping cart online (especially on sale at Amour Vert for $108 with another 15% off) but the reviews say that the tulip bit flips up and is annoying / hard to keep flat, and the print doesn’t look quite as vibrant as in the original stock photo that drew me to the skirt.

I mean it’s still pretty, but for $50 and 15% off. Not $108. Or secondhand.
