Week of Money: Where Little Bun ponders the meaning of “Self”

DAY ONE

7:25 a.m. — Little Bun: I’ve been thinking – what makes you, you? Is it the body you’re in or your personality?

Me: What do you think?

Little Bun: I think it’s your personality. I don’t think the body matters. But then if your personality changes, maybe you’re not you any more.

Me: So if I’m in a different body with a different personality, am I still me?

Little Bun: Now I’m thinking it might be memories too.

Me: My memories or other people’s memories of me?

Little Bun: You could have a memory that would be different for many people. Like in a fight you see it one way, and another has memories of another way, then you’d have different views and perspectives of the same memory. But you could also see it their way too, from their perspective if you tried.

We chat about this a bit more, and I try to encourage him to flesh out the idea in his head. He thinks about it some more and goes quiet. Philosophy is very good for everyone.

Me: Oh that’s your job?

Little Bun: Uh huh!  *LICK* *uses all his fingers and his whole palm to wipe it clean*
