Style Shopper: Review Banana Republic Rouched Red Sunset Midi Dress and Navy Laser Pleated Midi Skirt

MY BODY TYPE & SHOPPING PREFERENCES

I am normally a US 4 on bottoms (Designer US 4, Banana Republic 2, J. Crew 4 for the upper half like for jackets, or J. Crew 2 for the bottoms).

I’m an inverted triangle and normally wear an Small or 2 (smallest sizes in all mainstream brands except for designer brands where I usually take a US 4).

I am also 5’6″ and fairly slim overall. Small busted (A cup).

I will say for my shoulders I ALWAYS take a size larger than the bottom, like a US 6 in designer brands, or a US 4 in Banana Republic, or a J. Crew US 4 for instance, because my shoulders are large, my torso is wider after the pregnancy, but my body is slim overall.

I am super picky and hate itchy items of any kind because I have eczema (most wool-items and wool-blends are out, or anything unlined), too-tight things and anything that doesn’t look or feel expensive and wonderful.

$9 is $90 is $900. The price makes no difference to me.

BANANA REPUBLIC ROUCHED RED SUNSET MIDI DRESS

The Small of this Rouched Red Sunset Midi Dress fit fine on me, as it is stretchy but it was just too orange for my skintone near my face. I think it looks striking on people with the right skintone, but not on me. It just made me feel very sick and sallow because it is a bright orangey-red.

Fine from the back.

Great quality I must say. Very comfy, soft, thick… perfect.

BANANA REPUBLIC NAVY BLUE PLEATED LASER CUT MIDI SKIRT

I scored this Pleated Midi Laser Cut Skirt and I love it. It’s a petites size 6 actually, and it fits perfectly on me! I LOVE the laser cut at the bottom.

Looks like lace!

BANANA REPUBLIC LINEN BLEND BUTTON UP DRESS

**COMPLETELY SOLD OUT**

This dress very quickly sold out of my size at FULL RETAIL PRICE.

It is clear to see why, it is such a pretty piece. Very light, soft, linen blend.

When it came around sale time (I really didn’t want to pay full price, it was almost $200…), I snagged it in an 8 Petite.

The bust is a LITTLE large but not really uncomfortably so. Just a bit loose, which is fine for me.

See? Looks fine.

And the back is great too.

Very pretty, very retro. My real size would have fit perfectly — a Size 2, because the shoulders are open and I didn’t have to think about it. If it was a closed/tailored shoulder piece with sleeves that was not stretchy, I would have gone up to a Size 4.

The Budgeting Tool

About Me

I am a wealth-obsessed, style-focused, minimalist.

I got out of $60,000 of debt in 18 months with The Budgeting Tool which I now sell online and donate its net proceeds to charity, along with The Investing Tool.

I've also authored two books: Start a Blog Like a Boss - Making $1000 USD a month & Invest your Money Like a Boss - In 4 Hours a Year.

I earn like a princess when I work but am trying hard to live like a duchess instead by not spending all of it.

The rest of the time I relax and enjoy the time off by traveling, although traveling has been on hold lately with the arrival of Little Bun, my rambunctious, ever-hungry little boy.

Welcome.
