DESCRIPTION

Whether you’re closing a deal or holding a press conference, you need a look that lends authority. This tailored wrap dress is just the thing. Made of lightweight Italian wool, it combines a formal-looking collar with a flattering wrap closure. A longer silhouette (hitting just below the knee) adds sophistication, and pockets are always practical.

MM LAFLEUR CATHERINE 2.0 DRESS TAILORED REVIEW

QUALITY 5/5

Phenom.

I brought it to a tailor to see if they could chop the sleeves to a straight cut (see below for Fit reasons), and she said: Whoa. they finished the seams so that it isn’t open and it lies flat and holds its structure perfectly. I would not be able to chop this and then finish it. Maybe if I did that and left the seams uncovered (basted? I have no idea what term she used), then the shape of the shoulder and the whole dress will look wobbly and not at all smooth & elegant.

So yeah. Phenom quality. I also love the little pleated section in front, the POCKETS!! the belt which I can switch out, and the side zip is great.

DRAPE / FEEL 5/5

Fantastic. It feels tailored to your body, like a stretchy wool, it is 100% lined and even comes with a little built in tank section in front to cover up your cleavage (I normally have to wear a tank under dresses like this) but they THOUGHT ABOUT IT and sewed in a little panel. OMG.

MY USUAL BODY TYPE & FIT

The fit is great. I am normally a US 4 on bottoms (designer US 4, Banana Republic 2).

I’m an inverted triangle and normally wear an Small or 2 (smallest sizes in all mainstream brands except for designer brands where I usually take a US 4.

I am also 5’6″ and fairly slim overall. Small busted.

I will say for my shoulders I ALWAYS take a US 6 in designer brands, or a US 4 in Banana Republic for instance, because my shoulders are large and my body is slim.

I am super picky and hate itchy items, too-tight things and anything that doesn’t look or feel expensive and wonderful.

$9 is $90 is $900.

The price makes no difference to me.

HOW THIS MM LAFLEUR CATHERINE 2.0 DRESS FITS

To be frank, my shoulders are a US 6. This dress is a US 4.

It fits JUST PERFECTLY across my body (you would think it would zip up my skin the way it hugs me, but no, it actually does go up and it fits very well and tailored), zips are done up properly, skims, hugs, nothing is too tight or too loose, but at the shoulders it is a teensy bit tight because my shoulders are really a US 6.

Why?

Because the shoulders are a bit of a cap sleeve, it is the reason why it feels a bit tight.

It isn’t restrictive or cutting in, but I do feel it and I sort of hate cap sleeves. You can see me hunching my shoulders now a bit to show you where it feels a bit tight on my US 6 shoulders:

When I buy dresses I normally look for a STRAIGHT shoulder cut not a cap sleeve cut like above, because it tends to feel constricting at the shoulder unless the material is a fluid, stretchy jersey or something.

It is a tailored wool so you can see that the US 4 is a PERFECT, like pitch perfect fit. It is skimming my body and there is no give if I went up 10 pounds or 15. My stomach would be too big for this.

I would have needed a US 6 in this to feel comfortable for my body size, and also the entire fit of how snug and tailored it is in the US 4 is fine, but I’m older now and less willing to deal with tight #$*&#$&* so I should have taken the US 6 in this to feel like I can eat and be comfortable.

Still, not a bad fit. Fits very well.

ACCURACY OF COLOUR 5/5

Quite true to colour. Online it looks like a deep midnight blue and in person it is the same.

It is currently sold out now but it is a classic dress and could come back many times over.

I’ve seen it make the rounds a few times. You can shop MM Lafleur here.
