So for this review it is mostly because I am such a sucker for tweed and herringbone.
Throw in the word “metallic” and you have me hooked because it looks more special and feels more special than tweed or herringbone that is plain.
I JUST HAD TO TRY THESE ITEMS ON.
WHAT “STYLE SHOPPER” IS…
I’ve started just taking Instagram shots of the items I order online, have shipped to me and then try on at home.
So I figured, why not share what I think about what I ordered, why and what it actually looks like in person, along with pros and cons?
I also (unless otherwise noted) have spent my OWN MONEY AND TIME doing this, it is UNSPONSORED and UNSOLICITED.
..hence why the reviews will be super honest.
WHY ONLY ON INSTAGRAM?
I will only do this via Instagram because it is just too much work to take pictures with a camera, upload them, crop them, etc.
I want this to be quick and painless for both you and me.
If you have any questions about any piece, just shoot me an email or get in touch with me in a billion of ways and I’ll elaborate.
WHY I SHOP ONLINE
I do this because I’m all too lazy, tired and pressed for time to go to the store but am intrigued by what I see online.
I so far will mostly be only reviewing from The Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy or Zara for their easy and free shipping & super hassle-free (and free) returns.
On to the reviews!
AN IDEA OF MY SIZE & SHOPPING PERSONALITY
I’m an inverted triangle and normally wear an XS or 00 (smallest sizes in all mainstream brands except for designer brands where I usually take a US 4 or US 6).
I am super picky and hate itchy items, too-tight things and anything that doesn’t look or feel expensive and wonderful.
$9 is $90 is $900.
The price makes no difference to me as long as it feels expensive.
BANANA REPUBLIC COBALT BLUE JACQUARD SQUARE SKIRT – $30
It was seriously discounted. Bought it on a whim and loved it.
Took the US 0 and it fit perfectly. Even the waist was not super tight because the fabric is a little stretchy.
Gorgeous deep cobalt blue. I am a SUCKER for this colour. That and fuchsia / magenta. You can’t make me pass up an item in either of those shades.
It’s a really nice textured square blue too. It’s also not totally plaid but an offbeat print if the check family were to meet the plaid family and have uber cute mixed babies.
Very well made. Great zipper, properly finished, feels comfortable, slightly stretchy, soft, and fitted.
Perfect. It’s an ideal skirt considering I only paid $30 for it after it was on sale AND DISCOUNTED by 50%.

BANANA REPUBLIC METALLIC TWEED SHIFT DRESS – $195
I needed a size US 4 in this. I normally take a 2 in BR sizing, but the 2 was way smaller than I expected because they’re doing away with vanity sizing I think.
The waist line was up to my ribcage in the size 2, the chest was super tight (more so than normal with my inverted triangle shoulders) and although the rest of it fit well, I needed a 4.
I ended up taking the 4 as well in another order but couldn’t justify the price tag for the quality of the burlap feel of the dress. The US 4 fit perfectly everywhere.
Beautiful. I love the gunmetal shade like it is of woven metal.
I mean.. coated metallic tweed is not something like a super soft wool spun cashmere fabric you know? I think the quality is great in this dress, well made, seams are good, fitted in the right spots, but the fabric left something to be desired.
Overall, a nice fit. I like the look of it but I can’t justify the price tag for the quality of the fabric even though I KNOW it is a metallic tweed.
If you can get over the burlap feel of the fabric, by all means…
INSTAGRAM SHOTS OF THE METALLIC JACQUARD DRESS
This is the US 2 I normally take in BR dresses and the waist was too high (up to my ribs!) and the whole torso was too tight.
This is the size 4 on my frame of which I normally take a US 2 because of my shoulders, but my general body fit is usually US 0.. however with BR sizing these days, it looks like they’re eliminating vanity sizing and I am starting to take my “true” size (US 4) now.
BANANA REPUBLIC METALLIC TWEED MOTO JACKET – $280
I took a US 2 in this but I needed the US 4. It was way too small in this size for my shoulders.
I almost needed to go up to a US 6 for my shoulders as it was quite fitted but then it would have been really bulky everywhere.
Keep in mind, this is mean to be an office blazer / topper. :\
Same beautiful gunmetal.
Very well constructed, but AGAIN.. the fabric feeling like a burlap sack really ruined it for me. It isn’t soft enough and although that is the style of it to be structured, I can’t shake the feeling like I am wearing a cover and not a jacket that moves with my body.
Kind of terrible. It hangs terribly, drapes awkwardly like a boxy cover and is not at all what I think would be a good cut or product for the fabric that was given. In a jacket? Well you should have quilted the inside or done it in a cashmere lining so that it could be sold as an OUTDOOR outerwear jacket.
As an office blazer, it fails completely. I can’t imagine wearing this as an office blazer. NO way.

BANANA REPUBLIC METALLIC TWEED SKIRT – $145
I took the US 0 thinking it would fit and in the end, I felt the waist was a TAD tight but the hips fit well.
Unsure, I ordered the US 2 and realized that it was WAY too baggy in the hips in the 2, and the fit of the 0 was spot on.
Same gorgeous gunmetal tweed.
Out of all the 3 pieces, this is the best one to buy in my opinion, with the dress in second.
The quality is that it is well made, well constructed and excellent.
This was the 1 out of the 3 items that was a keeper for me.
I can handle a burlap feel in a bottom (especially a pencil skirt) because I can feel like it was meant to be more structured, but I hate feeling constrained in the shoulders or top, so that’s why the dress was a pass (unless I can score it for $30 LOL).. and the jacket was a definite “will-never-buy-it-because-I-will-never-wear-it” even if it went on sale for $5.

And here is the US 2 because I was curious as to how big it might be as the US 0 seemed to have a pretty small / tighter-than-normal waist:
Here it is peeking out from under my Burberry trench:
BANANA REPUBLIC SEQUIN HERRINGBONE PLAID PRINT TANK – $95
I took the US 2 in this because it’s a top and I needed a 4. Ultimately I decided not to bother ordering a 4 to see if it fit because I don’t like how high the front comes up at the neck.
A gorgeous tweedy grey, with beautiful shiny sequins.
Very well made, sequins are well-sewn on in a plaid pattern. Comfortable herringbone fabric too.
I feel like I am choking in this. The back dips down in a lower V (but you can still wear a bra), and looks very elegant but with my shoulders I cannot handle any neckline so high and constricting in a boatneck style. It would make me look too boxy and terrible.
That said, if you are OK with higher necklines, give this a shot.
For my body type, it was a pass.
