Sherry’s Ramblings for the Week

ALL OF MY BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS IN ONE SPOT

I keep being asked for book recommendations, so I created a quick widget showing you all of my recommended books by category here.

I’ll add to it once I have more recommendations of what I like to read.

THERE. Done!

Or you can go through all my shopping & reading of years past.

I CANNOT BELIEVE I AM SO CLOSE TO OWNING MY HOME

Sorry. I keep sounding like a broken record each week, but I cannot believe we are so darn close to closing on a place.

SO CLOSE.

I’m squee’ing with excitement and stressed, and anxious and happy all at the same time.

I’ve already bought a celebratory bottle of wine for my partner (I don’t drink). 😀

Then comes the moving process of course, I will be insanely busy for the next week.

IN BABY BUN NEWS…

He is becoming far more vocal and independent in his ideas, but at the same time, he is demonstrating a real interest and love in helping me do things. Sometimes he does it even without asking and I encourage him as much as I can.

He was trying to help put away and sort his clothes the other day, and came too close to my partner who was painting and he told him in an irritated voice to get away from him (to not get wet paint all over himself), and in a split second I could see Baby Bun get confused, a little hurt, and run towards me, because he didn’t understand why Daddy was shooing him away when he was just trying to help.

I soothed him, told him:

I know you’re just trying to help, it is okay.

Come here, we’ll put the basket here away from Daddy so that you can help Mommy okay?

Daddy is painting and working right now so it’s all wet! We can’t go near Daddy.

He understood, and was fine, but I can see that patience doesn’t come easily to us adults unless we are conscious about it.

I’m just glad I have some little semblance of child rearing sense in me. I didn’t think I had it, but apparently I do.. 80% of the time, that is.

Other days, I am just so short tempered, and frustrated with him when he won’t listen to me, and it just makes it worse.

I WOULD PAY $$ FOR NOISELESS DOORS

I absolutely think that all parents need to have doors that don’t squeak or make noise. I honestly think that if someone could bloody invent a door that doesn’t squeak open when I slowly open it and close it, I WOULD BE EVER SO GRATEFUL.

Why?

Nap times.

That’s why. When you need to sneak in, when you need to get something… he’s sleeping and you absolutely should not wake them.. you need noiseless doors.

BAREFOOT BOOKS

I discovered Barefoot books by accident at a local thrift store and became curious at what else they had.

Turns out, it is a FABULOUS company that creates books that are multicultural, global, and very interesting.

There are a whole bunch of wonderful videos for children here you can watch together and enjoy if they still like sing-along videos.

You could even buy the books and have them watch the videos.

Look at this wonderful Wheels on the Bus adaptation they did:

I am really impressed.
