I post my outfits on the blog every day at noon (12 p.m. EST) under this Style category #OOTD Daily Style and then I do a summary of all the looks in my Month of Style roundup at the end of the month.
The Starry Night Look
It all started with this skirt. I wanted to wear this silk blend tuxedo skirt, tipped in black linen, with the most enticing curve around the hem of the skirt in a cute tuxedo style. I didn’t want to pair it like I have in the past with a plain black tank top (bor-ing!), but I couldn’t think of any other colour that would fit as well, until my eyes came upon the Massimo Dutti shirt I am in love with in my closet.
This shirt, makes me think of the galaxy. Of the night sky, with an infinite amount of stars, randomly scattered across the dark night sky.I love the randomness of the white spots, and it’s polkadot-ish. Not at all like a polkadot, but … with a similar-ish feel.
Something so ladylike, made me want to pair it with this lace cuff. I don’t know why, I just felt like it went together, and I could have done a gold cuff, but the white spots in the shirt, sort of matches up to the silver cuff itself.
I love how the random white spots also tie back up to the silver lace cuff, in a way, it all matches up perfectly because the spaces in between the lace, mimic the starry night sky shirt but in reverse.
This little detail of a tuxedo pocket is the reason why I love older, vintage J. Crew pieces. They are far better made and more interesting than what they have been churning out in the past few years, and it’s why I hunt for this stuff secondhand.
The entire combination of the starry night shirt + tuxedo skirt (tuxedos are also normally worn at night for events rather than during the day), and the lace cuff, is exactly what I envisioned.
No other heels worked for this except for the black ones, as the skirt is so sleek that it needed a simple pair of pumps to tie into the tipped black in the skirt, and the black in the shirt.
Definitely chalking this outfit up to one where I am going to re-wear again in the future, it’s perfect for work!!!!
