In Style, What I bought

October 2014: What I bought, watched and read

WHAT I WATCHED

Like I had time. I was too busy shopping.

😛

No seriously though, I’m watching Top Chef Duels and Project Runway.

That’s about it. Even that is a struggle.

WHAT I READ

WHO HAS TIME FOR THIS!?

Between a baby who hates to nap and won’t sleep through the night, and working (plus commuting), I am not even THINKING about reading, let alone blogging.

Thank goodness I am scheduled until mid-February 2017 for posts.

PHEW.

WHAT I BOUGHT

NAVY WOOL WORK PANTS FROM BANANA REPUBLIC – $55 EACH

(UPDATE: AND BLACK PANTS.. BECAUSE I NEEDED BLACK PANTS TOO. OBVIOUSLY.)

ORIGINAL RETAIL: $125 FOR BOTH PAIRS

(COMBINATION OF SALES & DISCOUNTED PRICING)

I think they’re getting rid of my beloved Martin cut. I’ll have to switch to the Sloan cut, but they don’t make a 00 or a 000 Regular size, so… I’m kind of screwed.

banana-republic-wool-martin-fit-navy-straight-leg

Seriously needed these pants.

My old ones had saggy bottoms and I was relegated to wearing two pairs the entire week.. both in dark grey.

I needed at least one other option, in another colour (of course).

I bought navy wool work pants (almost 100% wool!!!), made in Bahrain for a sweet price of $79. I had to get them tailored (hemmed) and I love that they have pockets.

DONE.

It was really hard looking for not made in China, almost 100% wool and no polyester pants for a good price.

I looked at Theory and a bunch of other brands, but ultimately these BR pants were LINED (OMG! SO HARD TO FIND), almost 100% wool, made in Bahrain.. it couldn’t have been a better match.

Surprisingly I also liked the Sloan fit (I usually buy Martin) from Banana Republic but I am a size 00 Regular.. which doesn’t exist. I tried on the Petites 00 and it was a PERFECT fit. I needed it at least 2 inches longer though

🙁

*SIGH*

You know, you’d think I’d be so happy and lucky to be taller than 5’4″ and slim, but it sucks for finding pants that fit.

THESE 2 PAIRS OF FLATS FROM LOLLIETTE ON ETSY – $179 FOR BOTH

lolliette-etsy-islander-flats lolliette-etsy-lunar-flats

I had to. Seriously, I tried to live without these because let’s face it, winter is coming, but as I was proudly patting myself on the back for this, my flats GREW A HOLE IN THE TOE.

#*%&@(*%&#(*%&#*(%&#*(%&#*(%&

Yep. So I put in an order for 2 pairs of handmade flats on Etsy from Lolliette and I will try them out and review them to let you know how it goes.

It was $200 on Etsy or $500 for 1 pair from Lanvin. LOL.

[THRIFTED] AQUATALIA LIBERTY BOOTS IN BLACK — NEW WITH TAGS – $313

ORIGINAL RETAIL: $450 – $595

Seriously! Tags still on, never worn and resold at a consignment shop for $360 flat, all taxes in.

Originally $450 on the tags but a similar boot online is $595 now, plus 15% tax!!

aquatalia-liberty_black_calf_w_elastic_front

Super comfy and they have a great elastic back to them which means they fit my skinny legs PERFECTLY.

I’m sure in 10 years that elastic stretch will wear out, but right now they’re pretty much brand new, never taken out or worn from the box, and they’re good for me.

A really good find in my opinion. I would have been paying about $300 for a new pair of boots anyway, and getting a higher quality brand for the same price?

I’m sold.

Apparently Aquatalia is a really good brand, meant even for Montreal winters with the salt, snow and slush. They’re super protected, waterproof, etc. I’m not really going to test this theory because I want to keep them as black, dress boots… but that’s nice to know they’re almost indestructible.

[THRIFTED] TAGLIATORE NAVY JERSEY 100% COTTON BLAZER — $60

ORIGINAL RETAIL: $312 – $625 (IN EUROPE)

This is not a brand known in North America, but it retails for 250 – 500 EUR in Europe per jacket.

I scored this PERFECT Navy jersey blazer for $70 at a thrift store. It fits perfectly, it was just what I wanted in an navy blazer and it’s made in Italy.

The jacket basically looks like this in a dark navy blue.

I had been looking for a navy, jersey fabric blazer for a while and finding this one at $70 was a real find.

Apparently the consignment person goes to Europe, buys these amazing things for lots of money and then brings it back to Canada to copy (he takes it apart and sees how they stitch it, etc).

Really pleased.

[THRIFTED] DKNY BLACK DRESS – $48

ORIGINAL RETAIL: $250-$400

A real find. A perfect fit (the owners were amazed that size fit someone), and the material is fabulous.

It also has POCKETS.

POCKETS!

It looks pretty much like this, with pockets:

I think it’s great, and even though I don’t REALLY wear black, I felt so good in this one, I made an exception.

I used to wear the Martin in petite quite a bit too when I worked in the city. I’d think you could probably find some secondhand for sure since they’ve had the style for many years & seasons? I’m so jelly of the DKNY dress, that is so me. Flats are very cute, will check back for the review.

I am really coming around to BR pants. I love the Sloan! I may even “splurge” on a retail pair next. With coupons, of course 😉

The Sloan is great but I need a 00 Regular, which doesn’t exist. 🙁

Cute cute cute! I love those flats, the blazer, and the dress. Oh and the pants and boots too :). Ok basically I like it all! You’re a 00??? Dang girl, that is tiny! I’m a 0-4 (depending on the brand) and I’ve found that these sizes are often available at the thrift store (yay!), but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 00. I’ve pretty much given up on finding dress pants that fit because I’m 5’7″ and so everything is either too short or too baggy. I just wear black skinny jeans and call it a day 🙂

      I’m a real size 4 but apparently at BR I am a 00 and J Crew, a 000.

It’s ridiculous because I’m not really that tiny but vanity sizing says otherwise

Wow so many great finds! Those Aquatalia boots especially, I’ve heard great reviews of that brand. If my trusty boots ever go belly-up I’m looking into that brand for sure.

Now about the height… can I convince you to give me two inches? That way you’ll fit in the petite BR pants? 😉

You’ve totally influenced me by the way, the last pair of shoes I bought were real leather, made in Italy flats 🙂 Do you wear those flats at work or are they strictly out of office?

I wear flats at work too, depending on my outfit, weather and mood. I tend to always be in heels though.

I’m envious of you being able to find nice things at a thrift/consignment shop. I never find brand new things. And the used things always look so dilapidated, even when I go to the upscale shops. Sigh….

I also pay the price though. I feel like I overpay or should not be paying THAT much for something used.. 🙂
