What I liked this week:

- This closeup video of the favelas in Rio is mesmerizing
- I’m not going to apologize for buying my Canada Goose; I bought it because winter is frickin’ cold in Canada and -36 degrees Celsius is no joke. Advertising had nothing to do with it; staying warm did.
- I love this outfit from Jane; the mix of the striped dress & a leather jacket? Perfection.
- A great reflective post on who has your back
- If this is business casual, I’m a monkey’s aunt. Ladies, DO NOT take use this example as an acceptable outfit for the office.

Humans of New York is the only reason I still have a Facebook account. I love to read the stories and some of the comment threads. Did you follow the story of a little boy that talked about how he was inspired by his principal and by the time the story was done, HONY had raised $1,000,000 in a week for the school and they ended up with a Whitehouse visit? That’s been one of my favorites till date

I have not read that thread yet!! I had no idea there was more to it than just the story. The one that broke my heart was a 15-year old girl talking about how she called her mother ‘lame’ in front of a friend to look cool and it made her mother cry (privately). I just felt so bad.

Ugh, I’ve learned that people have wildly varying definitions of the term “business casual.” Pajamas, jeans, and flip flops are never business casual!

Relics are an interesting tradition. As for humans of New York…everyone has a story. It’s kind of cool to see what other people have been through or are going through. I disagree with some of the 12 things that should be free.
There are people who love books and want to reread them so if I like a book, I will buy it. Also with book swaps, not everyone has the book that you want or that they want. I love books so I don’t mind splurging on them. People splurge on clothes, coffee, subscription boxes, travel, shoes, makeup collections, their children, etc. I splurge on books. I check out tons from the library but if I find myself enjoying a book or renting it from the library over and over then I try to buy it.
I use a mix of store bought and DIY cleaners. I disagree with the museum one because museums run on donations especially from wealthy patrons so that’s why they have free admission at certain times. It’s free because someone else had to pay for it.
I pay $21.39/month for a VIP gym membership but then again I live in Omaha and I find going to the gym just motivates me. I don’t like exercising at home. I never had cable once I moved out of my parents house. I have Netflix, Hulu Plus, Student Amazon Prime, and my library card. Once in a while I go to Redbox.
And you gotta wear whatever makes you warm in winter. I live in Omaha, Ne and our winters can get pretty nasty. This last winter was pretty light so we lucked out but we never know when winter could get bad again. I’m not sure if our winters are as bad as Canada’s though.

Some days it is terrible but it isn’t 100% of the winter….

Cable cancelling (Things That Should Be Free, item 2): Any suggestions on how to do it in Canada, where four companies compete for cable and internet operations and 1)block all free US TV options such as Hulu (even with a VPN) and 2) hold streaming content hostage to force consumers to pay ransom by declaring loyalty to one provider over another?
Mind you, if it weren’t for hubby’s obsession with European soccer, I wouldn’t even be asking; me, I’ll start watching tv again when someone invents Adblock for the tube. And it wouldn’t have to be free either: I would gladly pay for such an app.
