Finding out more about someone with great conversations starters

I was reading Snoop: What your stuff says about you (fascinating and easy read), and he listed a bunch of questions that were tailored to let someone get to know someone else better.

I’ve picked just 10 of the list of questions there (apparently there are more!) and thought it’d be fun to do them:

Given the choice of anyone in the world, who would you want as a dinner guest?

Jimmy Fallon. Actually, anyone funny and entertaining, but I just watched a recent episode of ‘Top Chef’ and he just seems like such a down to earth, funny, genuine guy.

I will also take Tina Fey!

Before you make a telephone call, do you ever rehearse what you’re going to say? Why?

If it’s an important and/or uncomfortable and serious call, yes. I rehearse my speech, answer anticipated questions or topics and am generally prepared. I don’t want to wing anything because I’m an impulsive rambler who is sometimes TOO honest.

What would constitute the perfect day for you?

Wake up, eat a delicious homemade meal of my favourite foods, spend the day walking around a city like NYC in perfect 80-degree, sunny but not burningly bright weather, relax in a park with friends for good conversation with snacks, and end the day snuggled in bed reading a great book or watching a great movie with BF.

Most of my weekends are pretty perfect days. 🙂

If you had the choice to live to 90 and be able to retain either the mind or the body of a 30-year old, what would you choose?

Mind. Can you imagine how incredible my brain would be to be so sharp at 30 and have the experiences of a 90-year old!?

Do you have a secret hunch about how you’re going to die?

Peacefully sleeping in bed.

If you could change anything about how you were raised, what would it be?

To have learned more about money and the importance of compounding interest and time.

If you could wake up tomorrow having gained one ability or quality, what would it be?

To be able to absorb and learn anything like a never-ending sponge who never forgets anything.

E.g. learn a language and be super fluent like a native.

Is there something you’ve dreamed of doing for a long time? Why haven’t you done it?

Going to Japan again. Was going to go in 2011 but it was RIGHT when the tsunami hit. Cancelled plans, donated the money instead, and now I have to figure out the next best time to go.

What is your most treasured memory?

Growing up with my family, we went to the beach a lot.. so that would be it.

If you knew in one year you’d die suddenly, would you change anything about the way you’re living now? Why?

I’d probably go to Japan in that case, visit people around the world one last time, and make sure my will was in order…

Otherwise, no.

I’m already doing exactly what I want to do and I am where I want to be.
