Save. Spend. Splurge.

Do you remember the biggest waste of money you ever made on an item of clothing?

Too many to count. Do we need to revisit this?

Let’s see… Just recently from memory?

dkny-boiled-wool-cape-poncho-3

  • DKNY wool cape with a turtleneck that I knew I would never wear because I loathe tight turtlenecks – $300
  • These Vince Camuto flats I have on my feet that are already starting to go – $60
  • And maybe 3 of my formal floral dresses that I have NEVER WORN but just really love watching them hang in my closet because they’re so pretty – $1000

Ugh.

The biggest one was a Miu Miu bow bag in a grayish blue metallic color. I went for a small quilted Chanel (of which they had none & the sales person was quite rude to me), then walked around the corner to Miu Miu looking for a caramel leather bow bag. It’s been over a decade now and I still have that damn bag, barely used, in my closet. It will be sold or given away this month however. And I no longer engage in that sort of shopping, am a very different person now.

Too many to count. Not clothing, but I bought a Phillip Lim tote bag for interviews because I didn’t have a big enough bag to store my portfolio. You can guess how many times I’ve used it since…I still carry two separate bags to work everyday, just a small bag and a separate canvas tote for my lunch. I’m just not a giant bag person.

Also, when I was younger, I bought a McQ by Alexander McQueen cardigan for full price, like $300ish. It developed holes in it a few weeks later. Felt like such a chump for spending money on such a poor quality item.

A pant suit that I thought I needed for a special work occassion. Wore it three times, had it in my closest for years before I could let it go. I am not a suits person.
