December 2015: What I bought, watched and read

WHAT I BOUGHT

THRIFTED: GUCCI VINTAGE SHOULDER BAG / CLUTCH = $375

Original Retail in Today’s Dollars: $3000 — Paid 12% of the price

EMERGHERD YOU GUYS….

I saw this and thought: Oh that looks cute… *yoink*… and before you knew it, I couldn’t put it down.

The ONLY THING stopping me from wanting to buy it immediately at first was the strap.

It’s sewed into the flap and that’s annoying because it looks great as a clutch.

But.. problem solved!

I wrapped the shoulder strap around it and now it looks fabulous as a clutch.

And here are 4 ways I can wear my #newtome @gucci : over the shoulder, cross body, clutch or handled clutch!! #style #chic #fashion A photo posted by Sherry @ Save. Spend. Splurge. (@saverspender) on

It looks incredible as a clutch, the perfect size!! #purses #bags #style #shopping

Similarly priced items (modern Gucci, perhaps not as well made? :P) cost around $1500 – $3000.

The closest match to the folio clutch style I found was $3000.

I paid $375.

[THRIFTED] HERMES DARK BROWN BELTED ANKLE BOOTS – $575

EMERGHERD X 3000 YOU GUYS…

I saw these boots in the store (ironically I was there to PICK UP A CHEQUE from consigning items), and I immediately, IMMEDIATELY HAD TO TRY THEM ON.

Bad mistake. Big.. bad.. mistake.

They were soft. Buttery. I loved the belt wrapped around the front. Comfortable. Not pinchy like my Stuart Weitzman’s I ended up consigning, and … HERMES.

I have wanted an Hermes item for so long (not their oversold, overplayed, ubiquitous silk scarves please, too normal now and not my thing) … and THESE BOOTS.

OMG.

CUYANA ALPACA WOOL CAPE IN CAMEL – $250

cuyana-camel-alpaca-cape

I have been dying for this cape for a long time. I FINALLY OWN IT.

It’s long but not too long (like to the knees), it looks chic and I can wear it to work.

NO doubt.

CUYANA NAVY TURTLENECK – $55

cuyana-turtleneck-navy

I tried on American Apparel turtlenecks but found them too thick for layering.

This one promises to layer. We’ll see.

TORY BURCH DERBY RIDING BOOTS IN ALMOND – $250

Original price was $500 – I paid 50% of retail price!!!!

tory-burch-derby-riding-boots-almond-save-spend-splurge

Such a deal. Normally $500 I think.. or way more expensive for us Canadians anyway.

It was marked down, and ANOTHER 30% off!!

I am still not sold on the logo yet, but it is not in your face & annoying, so I think it’ll be fine.

Might even just be a cute detailed design for those who don’t recognize the TB logo. *phew*

I just like the look, colour, the strap, the tucking-into-jeans easiness and that it is a smooth sleek leather not like my Frye pebbled casual boots.

When I get ’em I’ll review them.

I’m also glad I didn’t dither around, hemming & hawing on that Black Friday sale when I saw the email on Wednesday.

The Almond boots sold out almost instantly!!!!!

I bought them at around 9 a.m. and by 3:30 p.m. they are all gone from the Black Friday Pre-Sale

THIS IS GROUND LAPTOP ORGANIZER – $600

thisisground-french-grey-mod-laptop-2-save-spend-splurge-review

I have wanted this from This is Ground for a longgggg time.

I picked up this laptop (13″ Macbook Air) organizer with a space for a tablet in French Grey. Love the colour Goes well with my m0851 traveling items above.

PLUS THE BOOKISH INSERT – $100

thisisground-bone-bookish-insert-save-spend-splurge-review

Got this one in “bone” (a white clay colour to match)…

THIS IS GROUND TECH DOPP KIT – $300

thisisground-french-grey-tech-dopp-kit-open-save-spend-splurge-review

..and a matching Tech Dopp kit to hold earphones, plugs, and everything else in between.

I almost want to buy my partner one too. He would find it handy when we travel.

I will review it all once I get it!

M. GEMI BOLLA SHOES IN GUNMETAL – $198 USD

mgemi-bolla-gunmetal

I will do a full review once I wear these lovely M. Gemi Bollas.

Update: Full review here initially, then a year later. TOTAL 180.

I am going to finally toss my old ballet flats. They are grody and they really need to be trashed or at least set aside as “spare / emergency car flats”, but they cannot be worn any more.

I went up half a size as suggested because they said the elastic was tight, so let’s see. I’m normally a 37 (7 US) exactly, but sometimes I go up to a US 8 in boots because I put inserts (Birkenstock half heel inserts) to make them even more comfortable.

M. GEMI TUTA SHOES IN NUDE – $198 USD

mgemi-tuta-natural

I will do a full review once I wear them. I promise.

Aren’t they pretty!?

Neutral flats, suede, gorgeous… and fancy without being too fancy. They’re casual but stylish without being a pair of heels.

MANOLO BLAHNIK METALLIC LINEN HEELS – $500

manolo-blahnik--metallic-linen-pumps

Remember how my beloved Manolo Blahnik, thrifted-for-$60 neutral heels died? Well.. I bought what I think could be good neutral replacements for work.

I paid $500 though *tiny sob*.. We’ll see if they work out or not.

I may or may not return them.

MANOLO BLAHNIK DRAGONHIDE….ER..I MEAN IRIDESCENT SNAKESKIN HEELS – $860

manolo-blahnik-blue-bb-105mm-iridescent-watersnake-pump

I hate. .HATE.. HATE snakes.. but they apparently make good looking shoes?

We’ll see.

Apparently they look like dragonhide instead (which I prefer over snake), so we’ll go with that.

“DRAGONHIDE HEELS” .. how can you say no?

I may or may not return them.

BANANA REPUBLIC COBALT JACQUARD SQUARE SKIRT – $30

banana-republic-blue-jacquard-square-pencil-skirt-front

I bought this skirt on a whim. It was excellently made, beautiful and fits like a dream.

ZARA WOOL COLOURBLOCKED PONCHO IN CREAM AND GREY – $70

zara-grey-cream-two-tone-poncho

On a more #affordable note, this @Zara poncho is #gorgeous made in #Italy and under $100… #beautiful #wellmade #ootd #style

BANANA REPUBLIC METALLIC JACQUARD PENCIL SKIRT – $130

banana-republic-metallic-tweed-save-spend-splurge-review-jacquard-skirt

I found it a bit stiff but it was just so pretty and wonderful!!

The tweed and details are nice though.. @bananarepublic #style #dilemma #shopping #shopaholic #shoppinghaul

The size 2 was really too large for my hips, the 0 fit perfectly but was a bit tight in the waist.

My review here from the dressing room of the entire suite of Metallic Jacquard Items.

I’m in awe of your consignment finds this month. Non-tacky Gucci and Hermes in the same month? Gold mine! Both of your capes/ponchos are gorgeous as well. I’d love to find something similar in a light tone. It’s too bad about the colour issue on the turtleneck, I was seriously considering bookmarking it for post-baby.

Non-tacky Gucci!! Yes. That’s exactly how I feel about the brand.

Hermes especially has been my favourite thrift find all year.

Many great buys! I really like the print on that Banana Republic skirt. That Gucci bag is also really cool.

The print is also textured!!! I also find the Gucci clutch very cool with its folders / portfolio look 🙂

I just saw your comment that you’re returning both pairs of Manolos. They’re lovely, shoes, especially the dragon skin, which would look great paired with black trousers or skinnies.

Well the linen ones are not as comfortable. Fabric doesn’t stretch.

The dragonhide ones are really nice but a tad too high to wear comfortably to work…and too delicate for someone like me, @ $2000.

Am in love with the pieces you picked up this month. Sigh. The nude flats and the ballet flats I just love.

The nude flats are pretty great. I plan on test driving them for a full day of work tomorrow.

I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the M.Gemi shoes. The designs look promising, but the only “reviews” I’ve come across are sponsored and I’m hoping for someone to be a bit more critical!

That, I can do. 🙂 I paid for the shoes with my own cold hard cash and I will wear them and review how they feel.. need to give it a week or two at the office to let you know if I blister.

So far, I am not pleased with the Bollas just feeling them because they feel sort of light and stiff.. I feel like the Banana Republic flats are better and cushioned, but we’ll see.

The Tutas, feel soft and wonderful at the toes (where I tend to have problems) but that’s to be expected as they’re suede. I’ll let you know if I blister.

I will say that the colours on the site are not the colours I expected in real life. What I got were more latte-shades and on the site they looked more creamy beige.

You can see them on my Instagram @saverspender too. I posted a few pictures but can’t properly review them unless I wear ’em.
