Save. Spend. Splurge.

Are there any figures from culture, past or present whose style you admire or have drawn from?

Hmm. Probably not more than an average person.

I sort of just randomly pick and choose people I admire but I don’t have any one specific idol I consider to be infallible style-wise.

Short list:

Danerys Targaryen (#GameofThrones character) – For badass dragon Queen looks. BADASS.

Lupita Nyong’o – For fresh colourful styles and just the most amazing colour mixing. She is stunning.

Lauren Hutton – For classic menswear of course. Loose, easy, comfortable, don’t care, and wonderful.

Olivia Palermo – Modern classics. She always has a little SOMETHING in her outfits, like this classic one above, I’d totally wear, but would not have thought about an orange sweater peeking out at the cuffs. Genius.

Kat Tanita – Blogger of With Love, From Kat whose entire wardrobe I pretty much covet. Her style is more boho than mine, but I love how she mixes classics with edgier pieces but always keeps it neutral and minimalist.

Miranda Kerr – Edgy and casual, she always has an outfit for everything. I love the way she mixes in leather leggings with everything!

Padma Lakshmi (of #TopChef fame) – Who has some gorgeous outfits on the show. Also, her memoir Love, Loss and What we Ate is really gripping. A good idea, I couldn’t put it down, it was such a page-turner with a satisfying ending.

Marilyn Monroe – Classically feminine and girly which I am sometimes. I love the clean lines, the high-waisted skirts, paperbag waists, the jackets that are classic and loose… I mean that outfit above says it all for me.

Jacqueline Onassis – Classic in general. Love me a good trench & sunglasses.

Reese Witherspoon – Always looks comfortable as a mother running around in flats (which I am). I love her classic American style, jeans, sweater, flats.. that’s my thing. I love the shoes and the animal prints too.

And plenty more…. depending on who shows up on Pinterest or my Blog feed. I love getting inspiration, getting out of my comfort zone, like wearing one-sleeve things…

I tend to avoid the flashier outfits that are skintight or very glam. It doesn’t fit my lifestyle. I want wearable outfits.

Audrey Hepburn! Also Jackie O, though very little of her style translates to my own fashion and life sensibilities. Jean at Extra Petite has always been my aspirational “if I had to be and could be fancy” dresser. She has great taste and balances color, delicate pieces with bold pieces, and generally pulls off such a polished look. I also love Kelly at Alterations Needed, I adore the hints of menswear that seem so comfortable and crisp at the same time.
