Save. Spend. Splurge.

6 Minimalist Ways To Make Any Outfit Instantly Chic

Sometimes it can be hard to figure out how to amp up an outfit without spending a lot, but you can do this with what you already have in your closet rather than buying new things.

Or maybe, instead of buying something new, buy a great accessory instead.

1. WEAR AN OBI / SASH BELT

I’m a huge fan of these because in almost any outfit I wear, I find that I am able to change the look in a snap just by changing the belt and adding a little flair to it.

2. PIN A BROOCH ON IT

Use it to pin your cardigans closed instead of buttoning them up with the given buttons, or wrap a cardigan or top around your body and then use a brooch to hold it closed.

Or just put a brooch on your lapel, or near your neck / collar.

My other trick is to use the brooch by pinning it to a necklace to give the necklace a new look.

3. BELT YOUR COATS

Blazers, coats, wrap coats, just belt them to give them another look. You don’t need an obi or sash belt for this, because as pictured above, skinny belts work just as well.

4. LAYER YOUR NECKLACES

Pile a whole bunch of delicate necklaces in different lengths.

5. PAIR TOUGH DETAILS WITH FEMININE ONES

A leather jacket over a summery dress or something very prim and proper (a pencil skirt).

6. LAYER YOUR OUTERWEAR

Wear a collared shirt, a sweater over that, a light jacket and then another cashmere wool overcoat over that, to give your outfit dimension.
