THE COUNT: 12 PURSES
As usual, it is one bag per month with me. There is a weakness I have with bags, and there is always a prettier, more organized bag and like Pokémon, I’m determined to own them all.
The good news is that each bag serves a purpose and I do use them quite often, sometimes up to 3 bags a day, one for Baby Bun’s stuff, and one for me, and sometimes another one as a smaller crossbody for essentials like my wallet so that it stays close to my body.
THE OVERVIEW OF BAGS & PURSES
BOM VACCARO DOCTORS BAG
This is a thrifted $2 bag that had a cute design on the front. I have no idea what Bom Vaccaro means because that doesn’t seem to show up in any language. I thought it meant “Good Vacation” but I guess not!
It isn’t very well made (you can see the inside coming apart) and it is fake leather but it is cute as a novelty bag for now. I may decide to DIY a little in front with some paint to make it nicer.
Just got it, no pictures yet! I keep forgetting to take pictures of the bags with my outfits…
DAGNE DOVER 13” CORK TOTE
I really wanted a smaller version of my now much-used Dagne Dover 15” tote. It is SO HANDY but a little big and heavy for toting around things. A smaller organized bag would be great for short jaunts, which means a 13” is the right size.
It will also be lighter in a cork, and it is a nice summery material for going to the park.
WOVEN WOODEN HANDLE BAG
Another $1 find. It is clearly a cheap bag, probably from Walmart but I liked the woven texture of it and although the wood handles are super impractical when toddler wrangling, I do find them to be a nice touch of whimsy.
It is a bag that gets complimented a lot when I use it!
DAGNE DOVER 15″ STINGRAY LEATHER ONYX TOTE
I bought this 15″ first, and liked it very much although I initially in my reviews of all sorts of work totes, found it quite heavy. Over time though, as I used it, I was marvelling at how it kept it shape, stood up well on surfaces and kept everything SO ORGANIZED. Really a find.
It’s heavier yes, but it doesn’t flop everywhere the way the lighter nylon Lo & Sons navy blue tote does.
I like it a lot, I just need something lighter and smaller for Baby Bun-trips. This is more like a major briefcase, but styled for a woman.
LONGCHAMP NEO PLIAGE IN KHAKI GREEN (LIMITED EDITION)
After having my Longchamp Pliages stolen TWICE (seriously?), I finally bit the bullet, took some advice from Tania and bought the Neo Pliage. It does seem better constructed than the regular Pliage, being double-lined in nylon, with very sturdy handles.
I got it in a khaki green after hemming and hawing for at least 45 minutes at the counter (hey, if you’re going to shell out $300 for a bag, it better be perfect), and I finally picked the khaki green because it was really quite a pretty neutral (was probably what sparked my love affair with khaki green this year), and could not be happier.
It looks great. Highly recommended. I chain the bag to my waist now.
NAVY BLUE LEATHER BUCKET BAG
Thrifted for $5, I initially didn’t want to buy it because I thought: bucket bags.. that’s a trend that’s going to go out right?
But since I was trying out new trends this year, I picked it up, and thought for $5 I couldn’t go wrong.
I REALLY COULDN’T!
I cleaned it thoroughly, wiped it down and disinfected it, and have been using it constantly during the summer, loving the way it slouches and has an interesting round bucket shape. I also like the secret zippered compartment on the side for my keys, which is a huge bonus.
SMALL WORLD DREAMS MICRODOT BUCKET BAG
Another sort of bucket bag, but less of a O. I initially came across it when I was doing my Holiday Gift Guides for Other People *cough*, but couldn’t resist picking it up for myself.
It’s pretty, but shorter and smaller than I expected. I thought for some reason it would be a massive satchel but it is shorter.
Here’s a shot of it beside what I thought it would be as a size (a large, red vegan leather satchel from Samsara, a now defunct label of Matt & Nat, but a super scarily similar version from M&N is here.), and my PS1 which is the most similar in its feel of size, I’d say:
GUCCI JACKIE COGNAC BROWN LEATHER HOBO BAG
Thrifted for $300, you just can’t go wrong with a cognac leather, LIKE BRAND NEW (seriously zero use or stains), classic hobo bag in a brand that can resell decently well.
It’s pretty, and I love how unassuming it is because it isn’t covered in interlocking G’s, or smothered in some tacky colour or design.
COACH BLACK LEATHER STUDDED HOBO / TOTE
Another classic, thrifted again for $150 from eBay. I guess they were normally around the $300 range? I couldn’t resist the studs on a bag. STUDS ON A BAG!! It is like my Kryptonite.
Anyway, it’s nice and large, the leather is of a very good quality, and it is pretty much logo free except for a discreet little “Coach” on the bag. My first Coach bag.
PS1 PROENZA SCHOULER CROSSBODY BAG
I scored this thrifted!!!! I couldn’t believe my luck. People have no idea what they are passing by. 😀 😀 😀 😀
It’s a nice shape, I wish that the crossbody strap was a little thicker for comfort, but otherwise, I love the details of it all.
VINTAGE COGNAC SCHOOL SATCHEL
I saw this and wasn’t sure if it was real leather. It probably isn’t, but I liked the shape of it, like an old schoolboy’s book satchel, and the clasp in front was interesting. It has lots of pockets, and for $5 I can’t complain, really.
I like the look and it’s great for a light jaunt to the park.
KMBAGGIES FELT GREY SATCHEL
Exact here and she has a ton of other models, and ships SUPER fast, I think I got it that week, which is amazing for Canada.
Another statistic from doing my Holiday Gift Guides for Other People. *cough*
I saw it, rather liked the felt look of it, and poof it went into my cart. I got it, like how soft it is, but it is really only meant for notebooks, nothing super heavy like a laptop, unless it’s a light tablet or super slim notebook that is very light and thin.
It’s a simple satchel.
- Thrifted: 7
- Retailed: 5
MOST PROUD OF?
AGH Why did I choose this question!?
If I must pick, I say the PS1 Satchel. You can’t beat it.
I added quite a lot of purses this year, but more than half were thrifted (therefore super cheap or secondhand), and I am hoping to increase that percentage to 90% for the new year.
I’m also surprised at how I have gravitated towards ‘designer’ bags this year, but am still sticking true to my love for independent pieces, particularly the piece by Small World Dreams that is ethically sourced & made. It’s really quite pretty.
For the next year, I have no bag I need or want to buy, maybe another bucket bag due to how much I loved my thrifted navy one, but other than that, I don’t have anything on my list I am eying.
More than likely, another satchel is in the plans 😉
Want to know what else I bought?
Stay tuned for the rest of my 2016 Year-end What I bought roundups. I am doing each category.
