What makes you want to purchase something?

I was thinking the other day about what makes me want to purchase something in a store.

OTHER than if you need it, of course…!!

When I see something (anything, but it’s usually clothing), the things that race through my mind can be any of the following:

1. IT IS IN A CONSIGNMENT STORE, BUT IN MY SIZE!

If I go thrift or consignment shopping, this one is like the Holy Grail. I actually like the piece.. and it is in my size.

2. I ALREADY OWN VERY SIMILAR PIECES…

90% of the time it is because I already own a ton of items like it (yet another grey wrap sweater), and I am immediately drawn to exactly the same things I love.. and already own in my wardrobe.

I usually end up putting it back on the rack because I look at it and think: Oh yeah it’s because I own a sweater just like that, or very similar, which is why I am in love with it.

3. I LOVE THE FABRIC OR THE FEEL OF IT

If it’s 100% wool, cotton, etc.. and I love the way it feels, it’s hard for me to walk away. I know how hard it is these days to find 100% natural fabric anything unless you are willing to pay $$$$ for it.

4. IT CATCHES MY EYE – STYLE, COLOUR…

Either because of the style (I love Perfecto jackets), the pattern, or the colour itself (cobalt blue, a deep crimson red or magenta pink always gets me), it draws me in.

5. IT IS THE PIECE I HAVE BEEN MISSING IN MY WARDROBE

Sometimes, I have been searching for THAT jacket for a very.. very.. long time.

To see it pop up? I tend to not want to pass it by because I’ve been trying to find it for a while, and it’s been on my mind so to speak.

6. I DON’T ALREADY OWN IT…  AND I WANT TO COLLECT IT

Even if I own similar items and love it, I have this instinct to buy something in multiple colours because you just never know when you might want a black sweater instead of a light grey, medium grey, or dark grey one. YOU JUST NEVER KNOW.

This is how my brain thinks.
